> Title: Quantum Computing Using Superconducting Qubits
> Abstract:
> We will review IBM’s current approach towards building a quantum computer
> using superconducting qubits. Large systems will require quantum error
> correction techniques and recently it has been show that such techniques
> based on two-dimensional surface codes have a remarkably low fault tolerant
> threshold. Surface codes have guided our vision for several years and form
> the core of our approach. We will show experimental progress towards
> implementing surface codes, including a description of our qubits whose
> coherence times (T1, T2) are near 50 micro-seconds. Together with
> 100ns-400ns long all-microwave two-qubit gates, we show two-qubit gate
> fidelities near or even above 95%. Because our approach does not require
> explicit frequency tuning of the qubits, calibration routines are straight
> forward. We will conclude by outlining some future challenges that face the
> community on our quest towards larger systems, as well as pointing out
> fruitful areas of quantum engineering which have influenced other branches
> of physics.

Dear all
Please be informed about the 6th Winter School organized by ID Quantique.
With best regards,
Ilona Blatter
------------------------
Dear Sir and Madam,
The 6th Winter School on Practical Quantum Cryptography organized by ID Quantique will take place from Sunday January 19 to Thursday January 23, 2014. This Winter School will focus on three subjects: quantum key distribution, quantum computing and quantum repeaters. It is oriented toward engineers and PhD students.
NCCR-QSIT offer two grants for students of the NCCR-QSIT network
In attachment you can find the brochure for the Winter School.
The registrations are open until 20th December, but the number of places is limited.
For more information, you can send an e-mail to info(a)idquantique.com.
Best regards

Heralded entanglement between distant atoms. Towards a loophole free test of Bell's inequality?
Harald Weinfurter
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, München, Germany, and
Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik, Garching, Germany
We report on the generation and analysis of heralded entanglement between spins of two single 87Rb atoms trapped
independently 20 meters apart. The data observed violate a Bell type entanglement without the detection loophole even
for the large separation.
We discuss the progress towards an experiment to close both detection loophole and the locality loophole simultaneously
