Hi all, Tomorrow Petia Arabadjieva will tell us about her semester thesis with Ramona Wolf entitled `Classical-Client Blind Quantum Computation`. See below for the abstract. The talk will take place at 4pm (new time!) in HIT E 41.1. Best, Ladina Title: Classical-Client Blind Quantum Computation Abstract: At the current state of quantum technology, for most users the only way to perform quantum computations is to outsource the computation to a quantum server. This raises the question of whether it is possible for a classical client to delegate their computation without revealing their input, algorithm or output. In this talk, I will outline an existing scheme for universal blind quantum computation which requires only limited quantum capabilities from the client, and will present the challenges of attempting to adjust this protocol to allow for a classical client.

ArXiv link: https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.06975 Abstract: Device-independent quantum key distribution (DIQKD) aims to mitigate adversarial exploitation of imperfections in quantum devices, by providing an approach for secret key distillation with modest security assumptions. Advantage distillation, a two-way communication procedure in error correction, has proven effective in raising noise tolerances in both device-dependent and device-independent QKD. We demonstrate how the quantum Chernoff divergence, a distinguishability measure that arises in symmetric hypothesis testing, can be used to characterize the circumstances under which DIQKD with advantage distillation is possible and raise the noise tolerance thresholds for DIQKD.

Best, Ladina Title: Security of differential phase shift QKD from relativistic principles Abstract: The design of quantum protocols for secure key generation poses many challenges: On the one hand, they need to be practical concerning experimental realisations. On the other hand, their theoretical description must be simple enough to allow for a security proof against all possible attacks. Often, these two requirements are in conflict with each other, and the differential phase shift (DPS) QKD protocol is an excellent example of this: It is designed to be implementable with current optical telecommunication technology, which, for this protocol, comes at the cost that many standard security proof techniques do not apply to it. In this work, we give the first full security proof of DPS QKD against general attacks, including finite-size effects. The proof combines techniques from quantum information theory, quantum optics, and relativity. We first give a security proof of a QKD protocol whose security stems from relativistic constraints. We then show that DPS QKD can be formulated as an instance of the relativistic protocol. In addition, we show that coherent attacks on the DPS protocol are, in fact, stronger than collective attacks.
