Hi all, the group meeting has moved to Mondays, still at 4pm. Today we're in K52, but starting next week back in the usual place, E41.1. Since it's still near the beginning of the year, let's pick up the "research resolutions" topic that was bumped earlier. Here's what I wrote in the previous email about that: << So I thought instead of a talk today we might instead share our "research resolutions" for the year --- stuff we're each hoping to accomplish this year. This might be something you're hoping to do in an existing researchproject, or a new project you're hoping to start, or even just a new subject you want to learn about. Maybe something you're hoping to get into that couldn't even be done by year's end. QSIT Workshop 'SCIENTIFIC WRITING AND PUBLISHING'

Dear all In the frame of the 'advancement of young researchers' - program the NCCR QSIT offers the following workshop: SCIENTIFIC WRITING AND PUBLISHING Andreas Trabesinger Reinschrift Science Communication Writing and publishing is arguably an almost intrinsic part of scientific endeavour. In this workshop, the speaker will present context, tools and perspectives related to writing up scientific results, based on his experience as a professional manuscript editor at Nature Physics, as a freelance editor and as a science writer. Participants will hear about typical editorial checkpoints, the changing publishing landscape, widespread myths and typical mistakes, and how an appreciation of these aspects can help to communicate more efficiently with editors, peers and a wider public. Participants will be invited to actively participate in the workshop and to send own texts ahead of the event. Date: Tuesday March 4, 2014 Place: ETH Science City, HPF G 6 Time: 13:00–14:30; 15:00–16:00 Maximum number of participants: 30 persons Participants arriving from outside Zurich will be reimbursed their travel costs.
