Hi all, For next Tuesday's talk we have a visitor, Andre Methot. The talk will be at 5pm in the Pauli room (title and abstract below). Also, Viktor is arranging a post-talk Movie and Jazz evening (see his message below). Cheers, Roger Title: Entanglement simulations and channels. Abstract: We will study the different entanglement simulation models: their structure, their motivation and the links that brings them all together. We will then introduce a novel idea. Next week's research day has provisionally been scheduled for Thursday. Please complain to me if this is a problem. If a significant number of people object we can change it. The talk has been scheduled at 11am on Thursday 14th February, abstract below. Cheers, Roger Single-shot quantum state merging I will introduce the task of quantum state merging and give a protocol for this task which has been shown to require at least a certain amount of entanglement. We have shown that the amount of entanglement consumed by this protocol is optimal.

The theory makes concrete predictions: in particular, the non-quantum gravitational fields do not exhibit independent zero-point fluctuations, predicting a suppression of tensor modes of the cosmic microwave background. Dear all, For this week's talk, I will give a brief recap of what I said last time, then continue by explaining how to get information in and out of the toric code, what self correction in such a system means and show that excitations of the torus act like anyons (which will be introduced).
