Hybrid quantum circuit with a superconducting qubit
coupled to a spin ensemble
Denis Vion
CEA-Saclay, Gif-sur-Yvette Cedex (France)
We report the experimental realization of a hybrid quantum circuit combining a superconducting qubit and an ensemble of electronic spins. The qubit, of the transmon type, is coherently coupled to the spin ensemble consisting of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in a diamond crystal via a frequency-tunable superconducting resonator acting as a quantum bus [1,2]. Using this circuit, we prepare arbitrary superpositions of the qubit states that we store into collective excitations of the spin ensemble and retrieve back later on into the qubit [3] with a fidelity of about 10%. These results constitute a proof of concept of spin-ensemble based quantum memory for superconducting qubits.

Student conference in Waterloo (Waterloo!) in June.
-------- Original Message --------
Subject: student conference on quantum information at IQC
Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2012 15:11:32 -0400
From: Stacey Jeffery <smjeffery(a)gmail.com>
To: delrio(a)phys.ethz.ch
Hi Lidia,
I just wanted to let you know we're having a student conference on
quantum information at IQC this June 18 - 22. More information and
registration can be found at http://aqua2012.uwaterloo.ca/
There's some travel support available, if you apply before April 15.
Early registration deadline is April 25.
I hope you can make it, and also encourage any other graduate students
in the field that you know to consider attending. It's a great
opportunity to meet other students and present your research, and also
should be a lot of fun.
Cheers,
Stacey
