------------------------------------------------------------------------ NETng IP Migration, 2nd Step http://nic.phys.ethz.ch/news/1192549107 During the next weeks, we will be switching over step by step the computers in our network to the final IP range intended for the Physics Department as part of the [1]NETng migration. All hosts in the 195.176.48.0/21 IP range (other ranges are not affected) will move into the [2]192.33.96.0/21 range which means that the first three bytes of the IP address will change. Every computer not having a static IP address (i.e. nearly all notebooks) will get its address in the new IP range during the night from next Monday to next Tuesday (22./23. Oct. 2007). All of our managed workstations (Linux, Windows, Macs) will be rebooted during the next weeks for the change, too. Please read the whole article for details and implications. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Short Outages and Maintenance Downtime of File Server Foostock http://nic.phys.ethz.ch/news/1190358774 Today in the morning around 5am as well as again around 6am our file server foostock, which contains all personal home directories, froze for a few minutes because of hardware access failures. It works again for the moment, at least with decreased performance, but we will take the server down at the latest after [1]togETHer has started at 5pm--if necessary also earlier--to investigate the issue closer.
