Hi all, today's group meeting is at the usual time 4pm and new usual place, J52. We'll hear from Paul Raymond-Robichaud of University of Montreal on the following topic: ----- Title: Parallel lives vs Parallel universes Abstract: In the Everettian framework, two important questions can be asked: "Is the universal wavefunction a complete description of reality?" and "Are the parallel universes described by it local?". I shall argue that it is not logically possible to answer both of these questions positively. I shall also argue that a new framework is necessary to address these issues. In this talk, I shall present the mathematical requirements for a purely local theory of quantum mechanics and propose new axioms that meet these requirements. The main advantage of this approach is its mathematical simplicity and elegance. Joint work with Gilles Brassard ----- Best, -joe
