Monte Carlo - Extending Sweeps

Hi, I've been working with the ALPS classical monte carlo program, and according to the ALPS website/wiki, it should be possible to take a finished simulation, edit number of SWEEPS in the simulation_name.task#.out.xml files, set the status of the task from "finished" to "running" in the simulation_name.out.xml file and then do "spinmc simulation_name.out.xml". However, the program immediately throws an exception saying "Cannot change parameter SWEEPS". I determined that the exception is being thrown from line 300 of worker.C in alps-1.3.1/src/alps/scheduler/. Is this a feature that just never got implemented or am I going about the procedure incorrectly? Also, could ALPS (or does ALPS already) include a feature that allows it to run in a mode where it automatically advances to the next task if the current task has converged in all measurements, even if the full range of sweeps has not been performed? DMRG Truncation Error

Hi, I am using the ALPS DMRG code to look at a 1D system. I am comparing the results for small system sizes with the results from exact diagonalisation to verify them. The values match to 5 - 6 decimal places in most cases. However I always get a truncation error or 1. Is this normal behavior? I am using ALPS 1.3.1. Many Thanks, Niall.

Dear colleagues, In preparation for the Sherbrooke summer school we releases ALPS 1.3.1 including the following bug fixes: * the hexagonal lattice is now correctly defined a a 3D lattice * the default random number generator was switched to a Mersenne Twister * a bug in calculating total energies in a classical Heisenberg model with single ion anisotropy was fixed It can be downloaded from the ALPS server at http://alps.comp-phys.org/ Matthias Troyer

To whom it may concern: Almost every file can not be downloaded form http://www.comp-phys.org/lugano04/Talks.html except Wang-Landau sampling(QWL.pdf) and Path Integrals and Quantum Monte Carlo (qmc.pdf). Another files are "Not Found. Requested URL /lugano04/Talks/IntroToCpp.pdf was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." Please tell me where I can download these files. Thank you very much. A detailed process of installing ALPS and Some errors in the process (To a pdf document)

To whom it may concern: After I met some problems about using Alps application. I re-installed my linux system and all softwares. So I found why I could not use alps to calculate. There are errors in the process of installing Alps Application 1.3. And I could not install Alps Application 1.3 to my system. Some questions about ALPS

After I installed a new linux system(RedHat_Enterprise_Linux_AS3 ), I have gcc 3.2.3 and libxslt 1.0.33. Then I installed icc and iff(10.1) and downloaded boost(1.34.1), alps(1.3) ,alps-applications(1.3), lp_solve(4.0) to /root/src/. After unzipped them, I have installed ALPS and alps-applications to my computer. But in these processes, I met some errors. There are some JPG-pictures about configure informations and errors in the attach files. And now when I use parameter2xml to convert task.txt to task.xml, I met error just like alps_para2xml_error.JPG. If I use the job.in.xml and parm.task1.in.xml of ALPS website, I also do not know how to use the alps-applications to get the result(HowToRun_alps.JPG). Thank you very much. 2008-03-13 dulei

Questions about install ALPS 1.3

I am a beginner about ALPS and linux. When installing the ALPS in a PC, I meet some question. Now, my operation system is RedHat_Enterprise_Linux_AS3, gcc 3.2.3-34, icc 10.1, Boost C++ 1.33.1. When I installed Boost C++, I use "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/" "make install", and Boost install is completed. Then I install ALPS 1.3, I use "./configure", I met some errors about "configure: error: Boost include files not found" But when i use "./configure --with-boost=/usr/local/", I met errors about "configure: error: Boost main tree not found". When I installed Boost C++ 1.34.1, the same problems is occured. Please help me, Thanks a lot. 2008-03-06 dulei
