For a system with multiple eigenvalues (e.g. ground state of the extended Hubbard model on a closed chain of 4 sites with 4 electrons, zero spin, and U=2V) sparsediag program returns only one eigenstate for each multiplet. How other eigenstates can be obtained if there is no quantum number differentiating them? Thanks, Andriy

Dear Matthias, Thank you very much for your reply. I have solved the problem with my own DMRG code. However, I will keep tracking ALPS project. It is indeed very great. How to define an operator A in "models.xml"

Dear ALPS users and developers I want to re-produce the result of a 12x2 spin ladder with four-site interaction. The four-site interaction is between two nearest-neighboring rungs. Please see: [ Phys. Rev. B 74, 155119 (2006), http://prb.aps.org/abstract/PRB/v74/i15/e155119 ] However, it seems that ALPS 2.0 do not support 4-site terms. Thus I define every rung as a single site, then the ladder becomes a one-dimensional chain (local degree of freedom is 4), and the four-site interaction becomes a two-site interaction. In original ladder, the SITEBASIS is just {sz} = {-1/2, 1/2}. In this basis operators such as Sminus have very compact expressions thus they can be simply define as: <OPERATOR name="Sminus" matrixelement="sqrt(S*(S+1)-Sz*(Sz-1))"> However, in the new model, a possible choice of SITEBASIS is {J,Jz}={00, 1-1, 10, 11}. In this new basis, operators do not have very compact expressions, however, the elements of the operator can be easily obtained through unitary transformation. The problem is, I can figure out all the elements of an operator in basis{J, Jz}, but I do not know how to define the operator in "models.xml". In other words, suppose an operator X in basis {J, Jz} is explicitly found to be [ 1, 0, 0, 0 0, 2, 1, 0 0, 1, 3, 0 0, 0, 0, 4] then in ALPS 2.0, is it possible to define X by simply writing down every elements Xij in "models.xml" ? Bose Hubbard and DMRG

Hi I was wondering if DMRG works with the boson Hubbard model? I tried making a parameter file for a 1D open chain lattice with filling factor of one and the DMRG routine wouldn't work. Are there certain parameter restrictions that must be put into place for it to work? Thanks Regards Michal Maik

Sx in 1D Hubbard Model

Hello all. As a test case for Alps 2, we are running fulldiag for a 1D Hubbard model with only three lattice sites, res = pyalps.runApplication('fulldiag',input_file,writexml=True) data = pyalps.loadEigenstateMeasurements(pyalps.getResultFiles(prefix='parm1')) and are measuring 'MEASURE_CORRELATIONS[Sx Sx]' : "Sx:Sx", 'MEASURE_CORRELATIONS[Sz Sz]' : "Sz:Sz", 'MEASURE_CORRELATIONS[NupNdw]' : "Nup:Ndown", 'MEASURE_CORRELATIONS[NupNup]' : "Nup:Nup", and everything seems to check out fine, except of <Sx Sx>. We see that the site operator Sx is correctly defined from Splus and Sminus, but is this the way to use it in the measurements? Cheers, Miguel

Compiling Alps 2 on Fedora 14

Hello all. I followed the instructions in http://alps.comp-phys.org/mediawiki/index.php/Download_and_install_ALPS_2 to compile and install ALPS2 on a Fedora 14 x86_64 machine, and did manage to install it, but there were a few caveats and 3 tests failed in the end, so I thought I'd share my experience and ask for help here. Basically, what I did was get the tar.gz with boost (because f14 still has 1.44), unpacked, created the build dir and then installed missing dependencies (numpy, hdf5, lapack-devel, blas-devel, fftw-devel, sqlite-devel). Some where not documented, like lpsolve and szip (from hdf site), and I had to look in CMakeCache.txt for the variable names, so if I didn't miss it, maybe this could be included in the docs? After trying cmake a lot of times, I had to delete the build directory and create a fresh one, and run cmake -D SZIP_INCLUDE_DIR:PATH=~/Downloads/szip-2.1/szip/include -D LPSolve_INCLUDE_DIR:PATH=/usr/include/lpsolve -D Boost_ROOT_DIR:PATH=~/Downloads/alps-2.0.0-r5363-src-with-boost/boost ~/Downloads/alps-2.0.0-r5363-src-with-boost/alps 2>&1 | tee cmake.log make make test and torwards the end I got 90/92 Test #90: python_hlist_test ................***Failed 1.84 sec Start 91: python_mcdata 91/92 Test #91: python_mcdata ....................***Failed 0.19 sec Start 92: python_pyhdf5 92/92 Test #92: python_pyhdf5 ....................***Failed 0.18 sec 97% tests passed, 3 tests failed out of 92 I did "make install", but has anyone else had this problems? Error launching cpp executable

Dear all For testing full-diagonalization I have used *ed-06-fulldiag* directory in tutorial. I used alpspython command to run the *tutorial6a.py* which by default was set for L=8 sites.
