Hello, I am a physics student in the US who has developed an interest in strongly correlated electrons as well as C++, and would love to try what ALPS has to offer. Unfortunately, I have a rather dumb question to ask regarding installation. Where should I use make when building it from source? I use a Ubuntu system, so I can't do it via binary source. Thank you.

Unable to run the hybridization tutorial scripts; cthyb and boost.mpi not found

Hello, Recently I found that an implementation of the continuous-time QMC hybridization scheme (CT-HYB) has been included in the ALPS library and I'd like to learn how it works, so I installed the binary packages of alps 2.2.0b3, vistrails 2.1.2 and alps-vistrails-2.2.0b3 on Mac OS X 10.10.3. I've tested a few tutorials to make sure the installation was complete. However, tutorial1.py in the hybridization tutorial told me that it couldn't find the cthyb module, and tutorial2~4 told me it couldn't find both boost.mpi and cthyb. Is it because the v2.2.0b3 binary package does not have them compiled and I have to rebuild the library from the source code? (I don't have MPI or Open MPI installed on my Mac, by the way. Does it matter?) Moreover, I tried to follow the instruction in doc/hybdoc.pdf to run hybridization from scratch, but there's a file "delta.dat" containing hybridization functions which I don't know how to produce. Did I miss something in the tutorial? Thank you. ps. I'm aware that CT-HYB is implemented as an impurity solver for the DMFT applications. Thank you very much Synge, now it goes smoothely. I patched as you suggested. I forgot to mention that I am using gcc 4.9.2-6 and boost 1_54_0. Problems with ALPS fulldiag measurement code and suggested fix

Dear ALPS Users and Developers, I have been observing some unexpected behavior when using translation symmetry with the ALPS fulldiag application. The detailed description (PDF), as well as a simple example and the output in question (.zip), are attached. More recently, I have discovered another issue: If I consider a single spin-1/2 in the Sz basis subjected to magnetic field pointing along the y-direction, the eigenvectors and energies are calculated correctly but the expectation value of e.g. the identity-operator is zero. I have tracked down the problem to a surplus complex conjugation in the calculation of the scalar product of complex vectors and the attached patch seems to fix it. Moreover, the originally encountered problem (cf. first paragraph) seems to be no more than a different manifestation of the same bug. I hope this information will be useful. sparsediag on lattice with different edge types

Hi all, I'm trying to do exact diagonalization (with sparsediag) for a spin tube (see lattice description below). Everything goes fine, but energy I get is about twice higher (by absolute value) than expected (I can treat small lattices with other means). This looks suspiciously similar to [1], but that message was left unanswered for two years. Am I doing anything wrong or is this a bug in sparsediag? For the latter, I can help with debugging.
