Dear all users and developers, I was building and installing ALPS in my loptop. I have done each process step by step. mps_optim for inhomogeneous Bose-Hubbard

Dear all, I try to use mps_optim for the 1D Bose-Hubbard model in the presence of a trapping potential. I use the latest SVN version (from last week), the latticel model "inhomogeneous chain lattice" and a homemade model "harm boson Hubbard" with the site term: -mu#*n(i)+U#*n(i)*(n(i)-1)/2+K#*n(i)*(x-0.5*(L-1))^2 which differs simply from the usual Bose-Hubbard model by the addition of the last term K#*n(i)*(x-0.5*(L-1))^2. Such a model works with the worm QMC algorithm, but fails with mps_optim with the error message: Exception thrown: Cannot evaluate x I tried to replace "x" by "i" without success. How should I proceed to have mps_optim work for an inhomogeneous system? More generally, I find it always **VERY** difficult to obtain the information on what should work for a specific algorithm/model in ALPS and what should not work. The only solution I found is trial and error, which is a bit frustrating. Thanks in advance for your answer(s). follow up to problems with dwa

Dear all, As another example of using dwa-algorithm I tried to run 3D case in trap. The relevant part of "model.xml" is: <SITETERM site="i"> <PARAMETER name="mu#" default="mu"/> <PARAMETER name="U#" default="U"/> <PARAMETER name="K#" default="K"/> -mu#*n(i)+U#*n(i)*(n(i)-1)/2+K#*n(i)*((x-(L-1)/2)^2+(y-(L-1)/2)^2+(z-(L-1)/2)^2) </SITETERM> which works with both worm and dwa. But suppose I want a QUARTIC trap and not harmonic so I modify to <SITETERM site="i"> <PARAMETER name="mu#" default="mu"/> <PARAMETER name="U#" default="U"/> <PARAMETER name="K#" default="K"/> -mu#*n(i)+U#*n(i)*(n(i)-1)/2+K#*n(i)*((x-(L-1)/2)^2+(y-(L-1)/2)^2+(z-(L-1)/2)^2)^2 </SITETERM> Note that the only difference is a power 2 on squared radius. Worm manages fine. Dwa gives error message "Cannot evaluate y" What I am doing wrong? Is the failure of dwa due to an additional power 2 (since "dwa" in polish means "two")? worm versus dwa

Dear All, I use worm with a harmonic trap defined in a standard version as in ALPS2.0 paper with the following addition in <SITETERM> (for 2D vesion) K#*n(i)*((x-(L-1)/2)^2+(y-(L-1)/2)^2) works perfectly. I tried dwa getting the error message: cannot evaluate y Trying the one dimensional version with just K#*n(i)*(x-(L-1)/2)^2 works for both worm and dwa. any idea why 2D harmonic trap cannot be used with dwa? Error when using 'singlesite' optimization and 'storagedir' together for MPS based DMRG

I occured an error "Intel MKL ERROR: Parameter 10 was incorrect on entry to DGEMM " when using 'singlesite' optimization and 'storagedir' together. I'm not sure if this is an error of MKL or one of the MPS code in ALPS However it runs ok if i turn off the "storagedir" option or use the "twosite" optimization schedule. Inconsistent comment in generate_spline_matrix in the DMFT folder

Acquiring data to susceptibility for Ising`s Model

mps_optim example 1: itinerant fermions in the Hubbard ladder

Dear all, I am trying to use mps_optim and have serious problems. I try to run Example 1 (itinerant fermions in the Hubbard ladder) presented in M. Dolfi et al, CPC 185, 3430 (2014). I downloaded the mmcs1.zip file which should contain all scripts and results. When I run the python script for Example 1, my results are quite different from what they should be: * No "EnergyVariance" variable in the result files sim.taskX.out.h5 * All "pair field" results are zero, or vanishingly small (of the order of 1.e-300). * In the result files extracted from mmcs1.zip (e.g. sim.task1.out.h5), there are additional results such as "Energy^2", "Local density down", "dens corr down-down", etc. * In the result files extracted from mmcs1.zip (e.g. sim.task1.out.h5), in the "parameters" section, there are things like MEASURE_HALF_NN_CORRELATIONS which are not defined in the simulation parameters (most probably it it the same as MEASURE_HALF_CORRELATIONS). I thus have the impression that the results files provided in mmcs1.zip have NOT been obtained using the provided python scripts. More importantly, how to obtain correct "EnergyVariance" and "pair field" results ? I am using alps-2.2.b3-r7462, compiled from source on a Fedora 21 x86_64 machine, using the GNU compilers and Intel MKL libraries. Thanks in advance for your help. Error when searching for excited states with MPS code

I was using MPS code in ALPS to calculate exited states of the fermion Hubbard model when there throwed an error -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sweep 0, optimizing sites 19 and 20 Input <MPS|O[0]> : 0 Output <MPS|O[0]> : -nan JCD used 8 iterations. 1D-Spin 1/2 -Chain with 3-site terms

Hi, I am trying to simulate a 1D-chain Spin 1/2 chain with a Hamiltonian containing 3-site terms, e.g. of the type S(i) S(i+1) S(i+2). From my understanding the only way to implement this currently is to extend the basis per site to consist of 2 spins, spin1 and spin2, which allows me to write the 3-site term as a usual bond term. I have implemented this in the attached file model_extended_basis.xml Doing this then requires rewriting the 2-site terms, specifically the term S_plus(i) *S_minus(i+1)+h.c. will become a site term for even i S1_plus(i) *S2_minus(i) +h.c. and a bond term for uneven i S2_plus(i)*S1_minus(i+1) +h.c. This implementation works flawlessly when using the full_diag routine. However, when using the dmrg routine, weird behaviour occurs. Firstly, restricting the simulation to total S_z sectors works within the full_diag, but fails in dmrg for S_z !=0 . Secondly, the bond term seems to be treated fine, i.e. only including the bond term in the Hamiltonian, the results agree with the full_diag results. However, when including the site-term, the ground-state energy suddenly becomes 100 times the coupling constant, and does not agree with the expectation value of the bond-term anymore, i.e. setting all other terms in the Hamiltonian to 0 and measuring the expectation value of the bond-operator does not agree with E0. I have attached the python scripts to start the simulation as dmrg_simulation_test.py and fulldiag_simulation_test.py I would be very grateful if someone were able to help me. Kind Regards
