mps_optim correlation measurement time

Dear All, I am trying to compute properties of a quantum ising model in the transverse field. I want to measure local magnetization (both transverse and along the field), and nearest neighbor correlations Sx(i) Sx(i+1) and Sz(i) Sz(i+1) for each two nearest neighbours. Later I plan on adding additional terms, but below I present the minimum model representing the problems. For longer lattices however over 90% cpu time (tens of minutes, hours) is spent in measurement of the correlation functions. Am I doing something wrong? DMRG application does not run

?Hello! I'm running the ALPS docker container with IPython support (I have the last version of the container): docker run -p 8888:8888 dolfim/alps:2.2b4-notebook I am trying to run the first example from the DMRG tutorial (http://alps.comp-phys.org/mediawiki/index.php/ALPS_2_Tutorials:DMRG-01_DMRG) but I encounter a problem related to the lines of the code which runs, writes and reads the simulation data (script at http://alps.comp-phys.org/static/tutorials2.2.0/dmrg-01-dmrg/spin_one_half.…)<http://alps.comp-phys.org/static/tutorials2.2.0/dmrg-01-dmrg/spin_one_half.…>?. The script creates input files and task, but nothing more seems to happen and when trying to retrieve the output, there is just an empty list and thus I get an IndexError. Has anyone else encountered this problem? It should be reproducible with the Docker container. Terminal output provided below. MPS MPI

Dear All I would like to ask if there is a way to run mps_optim simulation with many tasks with MPI. I expect that the DMRG/MPS algorithms are perhaps parallelizable only by openMP, but if a input file contains many tasks then tasks could be executed in parallel, as they process independent input files, and write to independent output files. However it seems that this functionality is not implemented. Am I right? Best, Mateusz Łącki

Converting observables to traditional units

Dear alps users and developers, I recently installed the ALPS libraries without any problem in Debian 8.6. Following the tutorials in the wiki page I’ve been able to create my own lattices and running some example simulations. Right now, I’m studying a system (Classic Monte Carlo) that has two types of spins under the presence of an external magnetic field, the Hamiltonian is like : J1*(S1i * S1j) + J2*(S2i * S2j) + J12*(S1i * S2j) + (Zeeman) For what I’ve been reading in the help page and forum, all observables calculated in terms of energy units. Can someone explain me how convert all the quantities to traditional units like Kelvin, Tesla, etc...? I have the magnetization, specific heat and connected susceptibility for a wide range of different J1, J2 and J12 couplings and external fields. I looked in previous post and information in the wiki page without success. I hope you can help me, I would really appreciate. Thanks, Dave

Installation problem of alps-2.2 version in Ubuntu

Dear alps users, I am currently installing alps-2.2.b3-r7462-src-with-boost in Linux, 4.4.0-47-generic #68-Ubuntu, x86_64, GNU/Linux. Problems with recent HDF5 1.10.0

Dear all, We recently found a bug in the new version of HDF5 1.10.0. Among others, the HDF5 library will abort while reading some data before the (alps) archive has been closed and sometimes it will fail to overwrite in a dataset that already exists. We noticed that the pyalps test pyhdf5.py is affected but this, as well as some routine in the saving of ALPS.Alea results (for an example, just run the tutorial mc-01). Jan Gukelberger reported the bug and a patch to the HDF Group and we hope this could quickly be incorporated in the next release. For the moment we highly recommend to use the version 1.8.x of HDF5. Distributed diagonalization

Hi all Has there ever been any attempt to write an extension of the sparse-diagonalization code that allows the matrix to be stored across multiple machines? In other words so that one can use the combined processing power and storage of multiple nodes in a cluster? If I see it correctly, alps can use MPI but doesn't share resources across nodes. vistrails - package org.comp-phys.alps (version 2.2.1) is out of date

Dear alps community I succesfully compiled and installed alps from SVN (revision 7792) on ubuntu 16.04. However when I try to open a .vt file in vistrails 2.2.4 I get the following error: "Module Tools|MplXYPlotCell in package org.comp-phys.alps (version 2.2.1) is out of date. Please check with the package developer for a new version" Is there a specific version of vistrails that I need to use? Thanks Benedikt

Trouble installing ALPS with VisTrails on Win 7

Dear all, I'm having trouble installing ALPS and VisTrails on Win7. Here is a detailed list of what I did and what didn't work: Installed VisTrails 2.2.4 from https://www.vistrails.org/index.php/Downloads Installed ALPS2.2b3 binary from http://alps.comp-phys.org/mediawiki/index.php/Download_and_install_ALPS_2 Installed ALPS-vistrails-2.2.b3 binary from http://alps.comp-phys.org/mediawiki/index.php/Download_and_install_ALPS_2 Added ALPS to environment variables from control panel (it wasn't possible to do it directly during installation, the installer complained about the "path being too long") as : Variable Name: ALPS Variable value: C:\Program Files\ALPS\bin Opened C:\Program Files\ALPS\tutorials\intro-01-basics with vistrails The program seems to initialize correctly, then I get: Critical error: error changing version (I get this message twice) The full error message reads: InvalidPipeline: Pipeline has errors.
