Fulldiag

Hi Dear, I am using fulldiag application for my problem but when I use this command: *fulldiag_evaluate parm1.task1.out.xml* I got this error: *bash: fulldiag_evaluate: command not found* And also I have not, for example, Magnetization and susceptebility and ... in the parm1.task.out.xml. Energy Gap

Hello Dear, yes it worked. If we don't have a good symmetry in the Hamiltonian for example anisotropic spin chain in transversed magnetic field, we don't know easily, in what sector ground state and first exited stated lie ? in this case is it true that I trust to the results which have given with setting just NUM_EIGENVALUES=2 in parm file? Install the library without g77

Dear all users, This question have confused me for a long time: Last week, I reinstall the new version Linux OS (Ubuntu 8.10),in which gcc package does not include the g77 compiler. I also tried to install but failed. Do I compile the library without the support of fortran 77,but with the support the gfortran or intel fortran? If yes, how should I do? Best wishes! basis states along with corresponding energies

Dear alps team, I asked for the basis staties and hamiltonian matrix for the system described by parameters in case of exact diagonalization. Dr Matthias Troyer told me of a program in alps/model directory. This program is print_numeric and it displays the basis states and hamiltonian matrix. Now I am interested with the basis states of lowest energy, as in case case of sparsediag which only has lowest energy states or fulldiag with firse states. I want that as sparse diag or full diag give the output energies it also gives the corresponding states along with those energies. this is what I want, then I can use the lowest energy basis states for my research as the professor will told me. I have look in the alps code it hard for me as i dont know c++ of the level it needs and learning c++ is taking much of the time. If the author of the program write a small routine just as print_numeric, it will serve my purpose, it will be great help of me. Otherwise please tell me to look in what files or modify what programs that i get the basis state of the model corresponding to its energy. Best Regards Khalid Loane

DMRG question

Hi all, I hope this is okay to ask here, but I didn't know where else to ask it. I've been trying to do a different periodic DMRG algorithm that splits the first site so that it is in both the left and right blocks. This is in trying to do a DMRG algorithm kind of like the matrix product state sort that works so much better. I've been having some problems with doing this and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I'm only considering a 1D Heisenberg S=1/2 model for now. First of all, I keep track of the Sz operator of the first site of the left block and the last site of the right block (which are really the same site). I make the superblock hamiltonian and diagonalize within the states that have Sz_total=0 for lowest energy AND Sz of first site of left block equal to the last site of the right block (they should have the same Sz spin since they are essentially the same site). When making the superblock hamiltonian, the Sz terms don't require any special consideration. However, the S_plus/S_minus ones do because when the 1st site of the left block is raised, the last site of the right block must also be raised, but the energy should be that of only raising one site. This is where there are problems. I have tried several ways but been unsuccessful. What must be made is an operator that raises both sites as if they are one. Any ideas out there? Is this possible to do at all? Is it impossible because of the minus sign problem with the electrons? Let me know if I wasn't clear enough. Also, when I rotate the a block after finding the highest eigenvalued eigenvectors of the reduced density matrix, I have to find the eigenvectors that preserve both Sz_total and Sz of the first site (in the case of the left block). I'm thinking that this will make the method less effective, but do you think that this will make the method ineffective? Thanks for your time and thoughts, Justin Peel

configure flags for ALPS applications

Dear All, I am having trouble installing ALPS applications on a Ubuntu 8.04 system. Installing the libraries is not a problem. Installing the applications wouldn't be, if I were not interested in including the lapack libraries in the installation. I've followed the instructions for the setup and installation of the applications, where it states that adding the option --with-lapack=-lLIB when running configure "specifies the library files for the LAPACK libraries". When I do this, I get an output to the effect of "configure: WARNING: Unrecognized options: --with-lapack". The same occurs if I include the option "--with-lapack-dir". Essentially, my question is what am I doing wrong here? Surely the option should be recognised by the configure file? Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated. Classical Heisenberg model

Dear users, I'm trying to perform classical MC simulation for the 3D Heisenberg model. The model is formed by random magnetic impurities in periodic lattice interacting with different Jij for various neighboring distances r between the magnetic sistes (i and j). Dear Matthias, 1. I congratulate you and your colleagues for creating such a fantastic tool as ALPS is. 2. See point 1. 3. Still there is a lot of truth in what Khalid Hassan wrote. To be specific: - I cannot go to Zurich for personal consultation. Both from Paris where I am on sabbatical and from Krakow (POland) it is a bit too far just for asking a couple of simple questions. Instead I go to Tutorial and Documentation link on https://alps.ethz.ch/mediawiki/index.php/Main_Page and want to read about: Definition of custom measurements or Common hardcoded measurements to know what I can get. But these sections of the Documentation are EMPTY. So I guess from examples .. but I cannot guess everything. To be specific. I run QMC codes for Bose-Hubbard. I know how to get occupation at different sides (for inhomogenous model, e.g. with harmonic trap and/or disorder), call them <n_i>. But I am interested in second moment <n_i^2> What I can do? a/ I wrote a long email to you b/ 2 times I posed questions on the very same subject on this list without getting any answer. From more experienced colleague, I learn that I may modify qmc.h so I get <n_i^2> INSTEAD of <n_i> - but this requires recompilation of applications and running the whole simulation twice. There MUST be a more intelligent way of getting the info I need. Or correlations <a_i a_j^\dagger> or <n_i n_j> .... May somebody give an advice on that? 4. Simon Trebst was happy that you reached 100 citations to ALPS (I guess this is both to old and new reference). I bet you, were there more user friendly documentation available and more active list of users, the number of citations would increase tremendously...
