Hi,
I typed parameter2xml parm1a in command prompt for MC-01 and received a reply: Caught exception:Parameter parse error at ""
May i know how to resolve this ?

Check the encoding of your job file and make sure it's ASCII; I have had such a hard-to-locate issue which kept me perplexed for some time. Good luck, K.S.

The problem that Kirill refers to is that he entered a file in Unicode and not ASCII. Another problem might be your standard C library - which version of ALPS do you use on which operating system?

Then the most likely reason is that you used an editor which does not store ASCII. How did you create the parm1a file?

I saved parm1a given in wiki tutorials into a text format in notepad. I also tried writing the same lines in notepad. Both attempts gave the same error message in command prompt ________________________________________ From: comp-phys-alps-users-bounces@lists.phys.ethz.ch [comp-phys-alps-users-bounces@lists.phys.ethz.ch] on behalf of Matthias Troyer [troyer@phys.ethz.ch] Sent: Tuesday, 7 February, 2012 1:55:41 PM To: comp-phys-alps-users@lists.phys.ethz.ch Subject: Re: [ALPS-users] help

The problem is that Notepad does not save the text in ASCII. The best is if you just download the file parm1a.

Actually, Notepad does save ASCII (ANSI, to be more precise, but that works as well). When you click "Save As..." in Nothepad, make sure that the Encodong setting at the bottom of a pop-up dialog window is set on ANSI.

Dear K.S
My notepad is always in ANSI mode. I tried using other parameter files from other tutorials in wiki and my command prompt gave the same reply whenever I typed parameter2xl parm.. Caught exception: parameter parse error at "".
