Dear ALPS users,
I have been trying to run ALPS applications from Python 2.7 on Windows 7 OS. I installed the binary packages alps-2.2.b1-win32.exe and alps-vistrails-2.2.b1-win32.exe. Still when I try to run any ALPS project, I keep getting the error message "No module named pyalps." I don't understand why python is not able to import this module at all, and I also don't have any idea where this module is located.
I would really appreciate any help whatsoever. Thanks in advance.

Did you install VisTrails?

You should not need to install alps-vistrails-2.2.b1-win32.exe then. Can you try just with a clean installation of VisTrails and tell me which version of Windows you use?

By the way, Dr. Troyer, when I go through the setup file for alps 2.2, alps cannot add its directory to the system path by default. I did it manually, maybe I messed up with the environment variables. Do you have any idea what the correct system path should look like ?

You can use the binary ALPS packages only with the Python interpreter that comes with VisTrails. The reason is that you need to compile a Pyhton package for a specific interpreter. If you want to use it with your 32 bit version of Python then you will need to build the package from source.

Or use the vispython script that comes with ALPS. It launches the Python interpreter inside VisTrails in a command window.

You should not need to install alps-vistrails-2.2.b1-win32.exe then. Can you try just with a clean installation of VisTrails and tell me which version of Windows you use?

I don't understand why python is not able to import this module at all, and I also don't have any idea where this module is located. > > I would really appreciate any help whatsoever.
