Title: Physical Aspects of Growth Control in Development
Abstract:
The process of development of all multicellular organisms involves an intricate interplay of cell differentiation and tissue patterning with cell proliferation and tissue growth. What are the mechanisms that control the size of the resulting limbs and organs and insure that they are proportionately patterned The talk will review our current understanding on the example of fly wing development. Although developmental biology is a predominantly experimental subject, there are numerous ways in which it can be advanced by theoretical modeling. The talk will present a phenomenological modeling approach which suggests a possible mechanism of coordinating tissue growth based on mechanical feedback.
