Dear QIT-interested people As announced on Monday our visitor, Martí Perarnau from ICFO, will give a talk on Friday, March 18th, at 15:30 in HIT E 41.1. Title: Quantum thermodynamics beyond the weak coupling regime. Abstract: Systems, when put in contact with a thermal bath, are expected to equilibrate towards a thermal state at the same temperature of the bath. This intuition is strictly true in the weak coupling regime, but might break down for strong system-bath interactions. In such a case, the corresponding equilibrium state can either be described by the reduced state of a global thermal state, or by a suitable generalized Gibbs ensemble. For such effective descriptions, in this talk I will discuss notions of entropy production as well as work extraction protocols. See you there! Best, Philipp
