I figured it out that the problem is caused by the compiler because the code compiles fine with GCC 5.4. The error could be due to new standards of GCC version 6.

I looked it up and sounds like this line of code was written back in 2006. So that can be a compiler issue but I didn't find anything that I could relate to the problem online.

I am using gcc 6.1.1.
